The Paper Watch Project

This morning I stumbled upon the Paper Watch Project, a fund raising project set-up by Templar Publishing to raise money for Breast Cancer Care after two member of their team were diagnosed with the disease.

The project called upon famous illustrators to design and Illustrate paper watches that would be auctioned off on E-bay. The watches themselves are simple digital modules made form  Tyvek, a tear-resistant paper like material made from flashspun high-density polyethylene fibres. The watches have been decorated with paint, pencil, glitter and many other materials commonly used by the illustrators behind the designs.

Many of the watches have an animal theme, from cats to alligators to a very sad looking white rabbit and a very friendly looking giraffe.

My favourite comes from Anna Jane Searle who’s gorgeous blog is a testament to her talent and creativity. Follow her at @annajanesearle for further bursts of creativity energy and beautiful illustration.

Ana Searle's beautiful floral design

Over 80 illustrators took part in the project, creating a collection of wearable miniature works of art. The auction of watches sadly ended on Sunday so I won’t be able to make a bid for any of these pieces but at least money has been raised for a worthy cause. Lovely to see a simple watch bringing hope and happiness.
