Sainsbury’s. North London. Pannetone fields as far as the
eye can see. Frozen turkeys fight for space in the misty deep freeze. Chocolate
creatures lurch from over strained shelves. It may only be October but the
season is now upon us. Christmas, whether we like it or not is thrust into our
hearts and minds and shopping baskets. With the weather turning cooler and my
role as office Christmas party planner well under way, I have naturally begun
to look for the best party pieces to update my wrist wardrobe for the impending
party season.
One such piece caught my eye in a recent press release from
Bulova ,celebrating the re-launch of their 52 year old Caravelle collection. The women's collection is dusted with Swarovski stones and features a pleasing number
of chronograph models in a variety of plating/material combinations. The stand
out ‘drunk-at-the-Christmas-party-but-hey-I-look-good’ piece is the Swarovski Crystal
Fabric Dial featuring 60 (count ‘em) stones in and around the watch face and
bezel. The black textured stones crushed into the dial make this a little edgy,
and lift what would otherwise be just another cocktail watch.
Described by the brand as ‘the flash and panache of
throwback extravagance… whether you’re breakdancing in the Bowery or out on the
town’, this range is clearing aimed to evoke that New York sense of cool and
bring a pretty traditional brand in touch with a new global customer. Whatever their
strategy, I think this is a gorgeous winter watch that would look swell teamed
with dark sunnies, Berocca and some wicked tales from the night before.
